The leader of an army in the past faced a difficult situation. Some years ago the last king of his people had set up a free government, accountable to the people. The people of the country were able to elect their own leaders and any changes in the law would would have to be voted on by the people. With this new freedom came a new responsibly. They were now directly responsibly for their own laws and for their own leaders. Or in other words, they were directly accountable for their own freedom.
Certain individuals were more interest in selfish desires for power and greed than in liberty. Through their political system, this group of individuals sought to destroy freedom and establish an un-elected king. They were backed by others who wanted to be granted authority and power under a king. This group were called king-men while the lovers of freedom where called freemen.
An election had recently been held to let the citizens decide for themselves if they wanted to remain free or to be subjected to kings. When the king-men were defeated by the voice of the people they gathered around their would-be king and sought by force to overthrow their country.
This leader saw the threat from within his country. At the same time he was challenged with the defense of his county from a foreign nation seeking to destroy his people and establishing their own king over those who remained. The challenge to remain free now came from within as well as outside the nations boundaries.
He rent his coat and torn off a part of it. With this cloth he wrote on it these words, “In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children.” He tied it to a pole and called his banner, “The Title of Liberty.” He put on his amour and went to show all others this Title of Liberty. People rallying around him swore to defend their liberty, their families, their country, and the right of religious freedom. The king-men failed to overthrow the country’s freedom. (I will give this reference in a moment.)
Does this sound similar to what is happening to the United States today? How numerous are the people in the world who would like nothing better an our destruction and to take away our freedom? Today we are facing un-elected official and others in government who are trying to do away with liberty and our God-given rights to self-govern. Their lust for power is a strong. An even stronger force of destruction comes from apathy and the thought, “I can not do anything about it.” In the long run, which is easier, to sit on the couch watching TV and munching on potato chips, or to suffer the consequences that comes from the lose of freedom? A caner left untreated spreads and becomes incurable. That does not mean that we need to take up arms. It means that we must be active in all levels of government from local school boards to national elections. It starts long before any elections are held. On election day it is too late, the candidates are already appear on the ballots. We are felt so choose among the names on the ballots. The work of finding trustworthy candidates begin far earlier. It is up to each of us to be active in finding and promoting people who love freedom and or willing to uphold our constitution. It is time to look for statesmen instead of politicians. Often the words of those seeking office are buttered up in order to win votes and soon forgot there promises. One person cannot do the work needed to defend our country’s freedom. It takes all of us. We are at a dark place in our country’s history. It will take all of us to preserve our liberty. Will our children know the freedoms that we have enjoyed in the past? It will be there our fault.

No matter your religious belief or if you do not believe that there is a God, The example at the beginning are principles that most of us agree on. Do not over look this example because of any disbelief in the source. Whether you believe in the source or not, it as as plan as a crystal clear window that we must act in order to preserve our freedom or we will one day look arround and asked ourselves, “What happened,” and wish that we would have done more to preserve the constitution. This country’s Title of Liberty is our own United States Constitution. Our constitution is under assault from without and from within. It is no ones responsible to defend our freedom, but our own.
